I swear the earth shall surely be
complete to him or her who shall be complete,
The earth remains jagged and broken only to him or her
who remains jagged and broken.

About us

Treadsoftly is entirely self-funding and receives no financial or other assistance. We exist because we need to. The great emphasis in outdoor magazines and books is on walkers as consumers - where to go, what to wear, where to stay, and so on.

There is relatively very little discussion or advice on minimising our impact on fragile environments and on respecting and conserving wild places and natural beauty.

We hope, in a modest way, to provoke some more thought and debate on the issue.

Based in Wales, Treadsoftly is a not-for-profit project set up by outdoor writer Paul Traynor, with the encouragement and help of family and like-minded friends and outdoor activists.

If you or your organisation would like to support us in getting our message to a wider audience through educational visits and other activities - or if you have a view on what we're trying to do - please contact Treadsoftly by email at editors@treadsoftly.org.uk

Our logo photograph features Paul Traynor's partner and Treadsoftly colleague Jacqui Bowen backpacking the Pyrenees High Level Route, with the Pic Du Midi d'Ossau in the right background.
